The Baltimore Business Journal<\/em> profiled McGuireWoods\u2019 Melissa Martinez<\/a> in a July 14, 2025, story<\/a> on her appointment<\/a> as the firm\u2019s office managing partner in Baltimore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martinez told the newspaper that she wants to grow the office, diversify its practice areas and expand its role in the community \u2013 all while retaining its current talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRetention in large firms is very difficult. It is a lot of hours and a lot of commitment,\u201d she said. \u201cWe want to make sure the people who really like to work have the right support around them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martinez focuses on commercial litigation, environmental and business torts, contractual disputes, and fiduciary matters. She also handles consumer litigation involving state consumer protection laws and patent litigation. Martinez chairs McGuireWoods\u2019 Asian Pacific Lawyers Network and sits on the steering committee of the firm\u2019s Appellate Justice Initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martinez succeeded Elena Marcuss<\/a> as office managing partner. Marcuss chairs the firm\u2019s Labor& Employment Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
